| Bio: | This journal is MOSTLY friends-only, but new friends are always welcome. Lately I've been opening up some posts for a while and THEN going back to lock them. I blame the Dragon Cave and trying to get people to notice and click on mine and my family's dragons. :) And oh, look! I am a walking, talking fanfic cliche, as I'm a mom to six-year-old boy/girl twins. I used to be heavily involved in feral cat rescue until the arrival of said twins. A lot of things you might want to know about me are listed in my interests, but most aren't. Like my addiction to orange juice. And pineapple juice. And pineapple and orange juice mixed together. Maybe with some bananas mashed in. Anyway. I guess you'll just have to take a chance and friend me if you'd like to know more.  And on that note... Over the years, I have had reason to ponder on the nature of friends and friendship - examining my feelings about friendship and what it means to be a friend to someone, coming to terms with the times I have failed in being a friend to someone, including myself; and trying to not only overcome my own shortcomings, but to forgive others for theirs. I think the most important, most powerful phrase in the English language is, 'I love you'. I think the phrase, 'I'm sorry' should follow closely on the heels of the first, in terms of importance. Unfortunately, that particular phrase seems to be missing from the vernacular of most people these days. Listen, love, learn, and when in doubt, do the positive. Be gracious, be grateful, and pay it forward. And always listen to your Elders, for they offer sage wisdom: "Once you make a friend, a friend never leaves you, even to death. So a friend is really hard to find." --Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA Once, an Elder told me he made a decision to be my friend. He said this friendship wasn't based on my behavior or how I acted; he said the friendship was based on his decision. He decided to be my friend. This friendship has happened like he said. Even if I don't see him for a long time, or if I get mad at him, he has never changed his decision. This is true friendship. I have a bachelor's degree with honors in Anthropology that I never use. I have the aforementioned kids whom I adore, even when they drive me batty. I have nine cats, a mix of ferals and tame, living in an Amish-type backyard barn with a nice skylight, windows, and a long bench that they can lay across to look out of the windows. They'd be in the house except my husband is terribly allergic. I also have six pet rats, two does and four bucks. No one's fixed, but they're in separate cages to avoid, ahem, 'accidents'. Ask me about them sometime! :) Our little girl Gummi is the sweetest thing ever! My latest passion is freshwater aquariums, and I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on the five tanks that I have. I have one 28-gallon with corycats, neon tetras, tiger barbs, a red-tailed shark, and a common pleco. I have two 10-gallons, one containing two dwarf honey gouramis and an African dwarf frog, and the other is divided with two male bettas, one on either side. I have one 5-gallon with one male betta. Finally, I have what I think is a 2 1/2-gallon gumball tank [courtesy of ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} luckybluestar! :) ] with yet another male betta in it.All of my male bettas are crowntails, as to me that is the prettiest variety. When I get more money, I'm going to buy a ginormous aquarium for the pleco. I also have on-going love affairs with Volkswagens, classic and progressive rock, the New Zealand male model Nick Bryant [if only he knew! =) ] and the television show Knight Rider - mostly the original, but the new series is growing on me. I also love too many other television shows to name here, but the highlights are Supernatural, due South, Star Trek in just about any incarnation, Highlander, Monster Quest, GhostHunters, Doctor Who (both old and new), the CSI series, Monk, Psych, Survivor, and... yeah. I'm sort of a junkie, I guess. Essentially, I am a dork.
